Pharr: Garcia Out Punches Smith in ESPN2 Main Event

In a winner moves forward loser may go
away battle Roberto Garcia (31 – 3, 21 KOs) outworked Antwone Smith (21 – 4 –
1, 12 KOs) to keep his career alive over 10 rounds on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights.
The fight was competitive all the way through in a battle that was fought at
close quarters with both men having their turns. Garcia distanced himself in
the middle rounds with consistent pressure and effective body shots. With the
win Garcia will look to move onto a bigger payday in the near future.

The 8 round co-main event pitted two
fighters whom had lost their last fight and desperately needed the win to keep
their careers alive. James De La Rosa (21-1, 12 KOs) out boxed the power
punching Tyrone Brunson (21 – 2 -1, 20 KOs) to earn a 8 round unanimous
decision. Brunson whom had not fought in 2 years came out swinging wild right
hands making it an easy task for the always moving hometown hero De La Rosa. It
wasn’t smooth sailing the whole way for De La Rosa as one of those wild shots
landed and put him down in the 2nd. After the knockdown De La Rosa
returned to his style of smooth movements and combination punching from all
angles for the remainder of the fight.

The recently retired turned MMA fighter turned boxer
again Rafael Casias (4-4)may want to think about stepping away from fighting
all together after an embarrassing third round KO loss to Sergio Perales whom
moves to 19-1.
